An alcohol thermometer is a type of thermometer that uses alcohol as the filling liquid instead of mercury. It operates on the principle of thermal expansion, where the volume of alcohol expands or contracts with temperature changes, causing the liquid level to rise or fall.  Alcohol thermometers are typically made of a glass tube with a bulb at one end and a scale etched or marked on the glass. The bulb contains a colored alcohol, such as ethanol or colored ethyl alcohol, which is less toxic than mercury.
