Separation funnel

A separation funnel, also known as a separating funnel or a separatory funnel, is a laboratory apparatus used for separating immiscible liquids or liquid-liquid extractions. It is typically made of glass and consists of a conical-shaped vessel with a Teflon valve at the bottom and a narrow neck at the top. The liquids to be separated are added to the funnel, and due to the difference in densities, they form distinct layers. By carefully opening the stopcock or valve, one can drain off the lower liquid layer while leaving the upper layer behind. This process allows for the separation of two or more liquids with different solubilities or densities.
